Registered for the new session? Here’s what’s next!

Are you new to Making Waves? Is it your child’s first lesson? Well let us officially welcome you to the family! Whether you’re anxiously awaiting the session to start, or are ready to dive right in, we’ve got some tips to help you and your swimmer prepare (and get excited!) for your first visit to Making Waves.

What to expect

Starting a new activity can be overwhelming for you and your child, but we’ll do whatever it takes to make you both feel comfortable. Our mission is to develop students of all ages into happy, confident, lifelong swimmers in a warm, safe and fun environment. When you arrive for your first lesson, you can expect to feel welcome from the moment you walk through our doors. From our friendly customer service reps to our knowledgeable swimming Instructors and warm water pools, we’ll make sure that you and your child have a great experience from day one!

What to pack for class

All swimmers need to bring a bathing suit and a towel to class, and if you’re in a Parent and Tot class you’ll need to bring your bathing suit too! When it comes to choosing a towel, we recommend bringing one that your little one is familiar with. This will help to soothe them after their session and make the new environment feel more comfortable. If you’d like some extra gear we also have goggles and swim caps for purchase at the pool. If your swimmer is under 36 months or not fully potty-trained, they’ll also need two swim diapers! And don’t worry, we have them available for purchase if you need them!

Bring indoor shoes

For everyone’s health and safety there are no outdoor shoes permitted in the wet areas which are the change room areas and the pool deck. We encourage you to bring indoor shoes for more comfort while you prep your swimmer for lessons. They’ll also come in handy if you decide to sit on deck to observe.

Crying is perfectly normal

Crying can be a very normal part of starting swimming lessons.  If your child is crying, our Instructors will ensure that your child gets the one-to-one attention they need to overcome their fear. Just be ready with a towel and a big hug after the lesson and don’t worry, we’ll have your little one loving their lessons in no time!

Be sure to snap a picture

We love cameras and we love being a part of your child’s life! Please feel free to come out on deck and take pictures of your swimmer! Your child will love having you cheering them on as you snap away. If you get a great image or video, please share it with us on Facebook and on Instagram by tagging us and using the hashtag #MakingWavesSwim.

We commit to kids having fun and parents seeing progress; all this to ensure your family has a wonderful experience with us!
